El Quinto (5to) Encuentro del "Centro de Formación Democrática de las

Question though: would Japan gladly, gleefully, voluntarily, & with
open arms, accept these Mexican illegals without hesistation? They're
crossing the border, trying desperately to enrich their host country
afterall!

I'm so bad I know. I should check my politically incorrect humor. I
really don't mean it in such a mean way. No I really don't. But I'm
just pointing out the asymmetry. I have always loved Japan - it's
probably one of the few oases of civilization in Asia. And that's why I

That is understandable, Russians were friends of Iraq and Saddam. I would be
surprised if they did not help him!

Except Russians who have an outstanding , unpaid, bill for about half a

How about the welders that work for $5/hr less than an American can
live on? I guess if you're sharing a house with 14 other people it's
no big deal taking a pay cut.

How about my old boss who hired an illegal computer programmer cause
he'd work for half what any legal resident would? Of course, that
time the illegal got screwed since he never got paid and had no legal
recourse, since he was working illegally.

Maybe everyone who's anti-Illegals should start hiring them, get the
job done, and just refuse to pay. If they're not an American and
there's no contract who will believe the illegal that he even did the
work?

Finally, the Lobby's influence has been bad for Israel. Its ability
to persuade Washington to support an expansionist agenda has
discouraged Israel from seizing opportunities - including a peace
treaty with Syria and a prompt and full implementation of the Oslo
Accords - that would have saved Israeli lives and shrunk the ranks of
Palestinian extremists. Denying the Palestinians their legitimate
political rights certainly has not made Israel more secure, and the
long campaign to kill or marginalise a generation of Palestinian
leaders has empowered extremist groups like Hamas, and reduced the
number of Palestinian leaders who would be willing to accept a fair
settlement and able to make it work. Israel itself would probably be
better off if the Lobby were less powerful and US policy more
even-handed.

There is a ray of hope, however. Although the Lobby remains a powerful
force, the adverse effects of its influence are increasingly difficult
to hide. Powerful states can maintain flawed policies for quite some
time, but reality cannot be ignored for ever. What is needed is a
candid discussion of the Lobby's influence and a more open debate
about US interests in this vital region. Israel's well-being is one
of those interests, but its continued occupation of the West Bank and
its broader regional agenda are not. Open debate will expose the limits
of the strategic and moral case for one-sided US support and could move
the US to a position more consistent with its own national interest,
with the interests of the other states in the region, and with
Israel's long-term interests as well."

Boehner says he won't let anti-Israel laws through

The new Republican majority leader in the U.S. House of Representatives

said he would never allow anti-Israel legislation come to the floor.
"As the new House majority leader, I can assure you that under my
leadership, legislation that is in any way perceived as anti-Israel
will not be considered in the House of Representatives," Rep. John
Boehner (R-Ohio) told the annual American Israel Public Affairs
Committee conference, to thunderous applause.

Boehner's address Monday to 5,000 activists at the AIPAC conference
in Washington was his first major foreign policy speech since his
fellow Republican legislators elected him on Feb. 3. Boehner was
elected after Rep. Tom DeLay (R-Texas) stepped down in the wake of his
indictment on charges related to campaign fund-raising.

DeLay was known as a leading supporter of Israel in Congress.
