A well-planned, politically solid session of the World Tribunal on Iraq took
place April 15-17 in Brussels, Belgium. The hearings showed that key Bush
administration members planned aggression against Iraq starting years before
the war was launched.
Key organizers and activists from throughout Europe attended the full event,
with representatives from other continents. This hearing was the first major
step in a growing international effort by organizations in many countries to
consolidate charges against the Bush administration for war crimes.
The idea for a war-crimes tribunal was raised a year ago and took shape in
Istanbul last fall. There have already been public meetings or hearings in
Mexico, Japan, Denmark and this three-day hearing in Brussels. There will be
a hearing on May 8 in New York City at Cooper Union and on June 19 in
Germany.
The Brussels Tribunal held the rapt attention of the audience through two
solid days of testimony. With the auditorium packed, an overflow audience
followed the proceedings by video camera in an upstairs theater. The
discussion focused on the programs and policies promoted by the "Project for
the New American Century," or PNAC.
This neoconservative think tank has advocated global U.S. hegemony,
primarily through the threat or use of military power. Prominent supporters
of PNAC include Dick Cheney, Donald Rumsfeld, Condoleezza Rice and Paul
Wolfo witz, who are now leading members of the Bush gang. Their public
advocacy of preemptive war, their use of overwhelming military force and
their focus on reshaping the entire Middle East through regime change and
occupation in Iraq began long before Sept. 11, 2001.
Lieven de Cauter, a Belgian professor who played a key role in organizing
the tribunal here, wrote, "In the New American Century politics, military
logic, economics and organized crime have become a seamless continuum, one
large global casino."
Testimony included 30-minute presentations by Michael Parenti, Michel Collon
and Hans Von Sponeck, among others. A special panel of three Iraqis--Ghazwan
Al Mukhtar, Haifa Zangana and Abdul Ilah Al Bayaty--gave first-hand
testimony on the impact of the war. Former U.S. Attorney General Ramsey
Clark, unable to travel because of an injury, testified by video.
Following each presentation, two people acting as prosecutors and two as
defense cross-examined the presenters. The panel of jurists then asked
additional questions.
The defense of PNAC was made by two specialists in politics of the
militarist "neo-con" grouping--Jim Lobe and Tom Barry. Karen Parker and Jean
Bricmont were the prosecutors.
The final ruling of an impressive panel of jurists reflected the seriousness
of the event. The following are some excerpts from the ruling.
Tribunal ruling
"According to a clear majority of States and a large consensus of legal
experts, the invasion of Iraq constitutes an act of aggres sion, a breach of
one of the most fundamental norms of the international legal order. ...
"Far from bringing stability and peace in Iraq and the region, the invasion
and occupation have created instability and chaos. Moreover, the deliberate
destruction of Iraq has effectively promoted the Israeli government's
policies of further unlawful expansion and de facto annexation of
territories as well as further annihilation of the rights of the Palestinian
people. ...
"The United Nations should avoid complicity with--let alone legitimize in
any way--the illegal invasion and occupation of Iraq. Any such action would
further discredit this world body. ...
"Finally, the Tribunal calls upon the peoples of the world to demand that
their governments deny military, political, financial or any other support
to the occupying powers; and oppose the illegal implementation by occupation
forces or their surrogates of any plans for the wholesale privatization of
the Iraqi economy. The Tribunal also expresses its solidarity with the Iraqi
people and its support for their attempts at recovering their full
sovereignty."
The panel of jurists was headed by Francois Houtart, who participated in the
Bertrand Russell War Crimes Tribunal on U.S. Crimes in Vietnam in 1967. The
panel included Denis Halliday, formerly head of the UN Oil for Food Program;
Nawal el-Sadaawi, a well-known Egyptian author and doctor; Salah Al-Mukhtar
of the Arab Lawyer Association of Britain, Pierre Klein, Samir Amin and Ludo
Abicht.
In the United States, the ANSWER Coalition plans to promote the work of the
World Tribunal on Iraq by calling a hearing on Aug. 26 in New York as the
world media gathers there on the eve of the Repub lican National Convention.
This hear i ng in late August will offer tribunal organizers from around the
world an opportunity to report their most important findings and
conclusions. Because of its proximity to the convention, the hearing will
connect the work done around the world with the mass struggles expected
there.

On the morning of September 11th death entered the city ,
the CIA had been watching and documenting the group's actions for months
and now eagerly followed the events of the day as they unfolded themselves
to the public.
Twenty Eight years later, on the morning of September 11th, death entered
the city of New York just as Chile had known, a foreign power dictating who
should live and who should die to benefit foreign interests.
And whom does the CIA work for ?
Certainly not the best interests of the United States' people, nor its
President unless those Presidents work for the same companies which the CIA
works for.
In 1953 the CIA removed the elected government of Iran in favor of a
British Monarch for the Anglo-Iranian Oil Company ;
In 1954 the CIA removed the elected government of Guatemala in favor of
Col. Carlos Castillo Armas ;
In 1962 the CIA had President Kennedy use the United Nations to colonize
West New Guinea on behalf of Indonesia and the Rockefeller's Freeport
company ;
In 1973 the CIA removed the elected government of Chile in favor of Augusto
Pinochet ;
From General Batista and the Marifa in Cuba, to Saddam from the 1950s to
1980s, to the Taliban ; always with a view to improve the fortunes of the
Standard Oil legacy be it Exxon, ConocoPhillips, Freeport McMoRan, or their
friends at Bechtel who build these sites and pay the CIA Directors ;
the CIA works for someone other than any nation's interests.

Well Mr Najjmuddin Pervaiz, if pakistan is so 'good' how come you guys
have to go on a begging spree every year hustling money from US for
loan forgiveness, aid, grants, money for fighting (more like creating)
terrorism..etc.
Everbody knows pakistan's economy is based on foreign aid and the
economy would have collapsed back in 2000 under its debt obligations if
not for handouts.
Begging as an economic strategy for the 21st century does not equal
development. Other than terrorism, what industry is there in pakistan?
BTW, your name will make you instantly recognizable by the desi
community whereever you go. Congratulations!

Considering pakistanis today are the product of hindus who were forced
into islam, one wonders what 'you' mr pervaiz is referring to. It is
an interesting paradox how people who get raped and forced into a cult
based on worshipping arabs suddenly want to project themselves as great
conquerers.
Trying to be someone you are not is the greatest dishonour you can
bring upon your ansestors. Shame on you Najjmuddin Pervaiz for being
an arab wannabe. No amount of bowing to mecca is going to change the
historical fact that it was your ansestors who's asses who meekly
submitted and converted to mohamadanism.

I have shown Seeker information from a widely respected source for
economic data.....On GDP, Per capita income, Literacry rates, Birth
Rates, Life expectancy...the list is endless
Everywhere Pakistan is far behind India....but both Seeker and Nazir
Hunzai refer to things that they see...Mercedes cars, BMW etc
etc....and FUNNILY...they dont accept the indices I have quoted above
as valid measures of economic performance.
Do you think people who dont understand economics (the basic form of
economics) would ever believe that they are a pauper nation ?
I am sending out a plea to all pakistanis....can you talk in your
language to Nazir Hunzai and Seeker......and explain to them what per
capita income, literacy rates, birth rates, life expectancy etc mean ?
I am quoting below 2 links which you can refer for measuring Paki
economic status vis-a-vis Indias
FOR INDIAN ECONOMY :
http://www.cia.gov/cia/publications/factbook/geos/in.html
FOR PAKISTANI ECONOMY
:http://www.cia.gov/cia/publications/factbook/geos/pk.html
Can any Pakistani please put an intelligent response to these numbers ?
and please dont count mercedes showrooms as a measure of economics.
I am tempted to call Pakistanis with a name - Loosers.....but I would
wait for a response from a pakistani who has some understanding of
economics.

We're waiting for Iran to fire one of their super-stealth missiles
at our navy... I think this is all about Iranian bravado and
puffing of the chest right now. Maybe it will get more serious
later on. If the Iranians want to fight with the US I'm sure
we will accomodate them.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
----
When was the last time that Cubans were able to see any of these?
Hot dogs, hamburgers, ham, Spanish sausage (chorizo), lobster pate,
breakfast sausages? Most Cubans,
who were born after Castro came to power, don't even know what these things
are. Castro's propaganda
machine claims that Cubans can't have access to these type of products
because "of the criminal US blockade
against Cuba." That same lie is repeated over and over by ignorant people
who do not know The Real Cuba.
In the United Nations, 99% of the countries that belong to that social club
vote every year to ask the US to
eliminate the 'criminal blockade.' One of those countries that always votes
to ask for the end of the embargo
is the Spanish government.
But the products that you see above ARE BEING PRODUCED IN CUBA! Yes sir,
they are being produced by a
Spanish company. According to the information provided in their website,
this is a "Hispano-Cubana" company.
In other words, it is a partnership between Spanish investors and the Castro
regime.
But Cubans won't see any of these products in their 'bodegas' because of the
internal blockade imposed by
Castro against the Cuban people.
Will the Spanish government ask Castro to eliminate the internal blockade
and make these products available
to regular Cubans and not just to foreigners or for export? No, because that
would jeopardize the excellent
business that many other Spanish and European companies are doing in Cuba
benefiting from the exploitation
of a slave working force that has no right to benefits, vacations, to
protest or to be represented by unions
Click here to see more information about this company and the products that
it manufactures in Castro's
Cuba. Bravo SA
How can Castro complain about a 'US blockade' when he is able to sell to
foreigners in Cuba all kind of computer
equipment manufactured by US companies?
How can the so called Pastors for Peace, organize caravans to take computer
equipment to Cuban schools
claiming that the US blockade prevents the Cuban regime from supplying the
schools with the necessary
computer equipment that they need?
How can anyone still believe that the US sanctions against the Castro regime
are the cause for so much poverty,
lack of food, lack of medicines, lack of housing, etc.?
The truth is that the only embargo that really hurts the Cuban people, is
the INTERNAL embargo put in place by
Castro, in order to keep a tight control of the Cuban population.
Until that internal embargo is lifted, the Cuban people will continue to
suffer no matter what happens with the US
embargo.
Here are some of the hundreds of computer products, manufactured by US
companies, being offered by Tecun, a
Cuban government company with several stores located in Havana. In some
cases, Tecun is even offering direct
support from the US manufacturer, like in the case of Cisco products. I
would believe that providing such a
service is in violation of the embargo and I'll be sending this information
to my representatives in Congress. I ask
you to please do the same.
And remember, that many Cubans have been sent to jail when the police found
out that they had a computer
at home.
Castro's Cuba is one of the few places on Earth where having a home computer
is considered a crime.
All the equipment being offered by Tecun is ONLY FOR FOREIGNERS.

activities they do directly or indirectly. Sorry to break the news to
you....the laws are strictly implemented in India and we have an independent
judiciary...unlike...err....your country where we know how mian musharraf
has used the judiciary like an wing of the army !!! I dont deny caste based
crimes in India....but that happens in the poorest of states in
India....thats where the naxals that you quote are more prevelant....the
reasons are more socio economic than casteist...although I do accept that
muslims and lower castes are really poor even now in India.

And what about Shia-Sunni riots in your land ? Ahemdis and their persecution
? Baluchistan ? NWFP ? Sindh ? Mohajirs ? All societies have their
evils....the difference is in how the society cures itself...the open nature
of hindus/indians has already set them on that way.....you and the rest of
the islamic countries are still stuck...refusing to come out of the medieval
way of living/thinking till you are pushed out of your current situation by
the world.

I have been to India four times. That was enough for me. I don't want to go
to India anymore. They wouldn't let me take pictures of Ganesh and none of
you Hindus here explain to me why it is wrong to take pictures of ganesh.

Gotta learn from someone or you need to stop lying about your religion.

So then there is no such thing as Hinduism per se.

That's because "each other" is a very lose term in the context where there
is no such thing as Hinduism.
