This is all great information. But you must consider that many herein (like
John Griffin, Monkey Boy and Cap'n Crunch) are much more concerned with
questions like, "Why does my dick turn orange after eating a bag of
Cheetos?" "Will a condom help?" "Should it be worn on my dick or my hand?"

There are just 30,000 families . If each was given just
$10,000 it would cost the rich state of Gujarat just $300m , to be
raised by say a 1% VAT local tax for one year , and the Gujarat can

Just bought one of these at a gas station for less than $10 .
The photovoltaic panel on top of this lamp disguised as a rock
recharges during the day and comes on at night putting out about as
much light as a full moon. It says the rechargebale batteries should
last about three years.
Millions of these in homes could make a significant
contribution to energy savings . They would be very useful in the
third world in huts at night.
Once LED ligts reach 100 watt average they might start
replacing office lights and with solar charging during the day.

Umm, no.
LEDs have a number of problems.
Basically, the best whites, with an acceptable colour output are around
half as efficient as the worst of fluorescants, and many times more
expensive.
LEDs are very good for small amounts of light. Not so great at normal
ones.

I know.
But Sony's Betamax, way back in 1964, was the first demonstration to
American consumers that VCRs could be made practical and affordable by
consumers. It was also another sign that in the future, American firms
were going to face real strong competition from the Far East in consumer
electronics.

Ampex wasn't a VCR. It was a VTR, with huge reels of tape that had to
be threaded by hand. Like I said, the videocassette concept came
later--by firms like Sony.
Before I owned a VCR, my employer in the 1970's had a VCR. It was a big
beast with a U-Matic format cassette with 3/4 inch wide videotape.
Getting the VCR down to the size that it would fit right next to your TV
set, with a cassette that was small enough to fit in your hand, was the
next major advance.

Correct. I don't want to give anyone a false impression. The thing
they demoed at the 1964 World's Fair was not ready to be sold to any
consumers; it was a prototype only, like the "concept cars" that Ford
and General Motors were demoing. But for visitors to the Fair it was
the first chance for consumers to see what they might be getting in
another 10 years.

US TROOPS ADMIT SHOOTING IRAQI CIVILIANS
By Naveed Raja
American troops today admitted they routinely gun down Iraqi civilians -
some of whom are entirely innocent.
As distrust of the invading forces increases amongst the local population US
soldiers said they have killed civilians without hesitation, shot injured
opponents and abandoned them to die in agony.
The testimonies of the troops on the ground further expose George Bush's
claims about the role his forces are playing in the failing reconstruction
of Iraq.
Sergeant First Class John Meadows summed up the prevailing attitude amongst
his colleagues telling the Evening Standard that Iraqi fighters were dressed
in civilian clothes.
"You can't distinguish between who's trying to kill you and who's not," he
said.
"Like, the only way to get through s*** like that was to concentrate on
getting through it by killing as many people as you can, people you know are
trying to kill you. Killing them first and getting home."
And in an admission that directly contrasts with the line coming out from
the Pentagon's spin doctors Specialist Corporal Michael Richardson added:
"There was no dilemma when it came to shooting people who were not in
uniform, I just pulled the trigger.
"It was up close and personal the whole time, there wasn't a big distance.
If they were there, they were enemy, whether in uniform or not. Some were,
some weren't."
Describing the scene during combat Richardson admitted shooting injured
soldiers and leaving them to die.
He said: "S***, I didn't help any of them. I wouldn't help the f******.
There were some you let die. And there were some you double-tapped."
Making a shooting sign with his hand he went on: "Once you'd reached the
objective, and once you'd shot them and you're moving through, anything
there, you shoot again. You didn't want any prisoners of war. You hate them
so bad while you're fighting, and you're so terrified, you can't really
convey the feeling, but you don't want them to live."
And despite there being no link between Iraq and the September 11 attacks
Richardson admitted that it gave him his motivation to fight Iraqis.
"There's a picture of the World Trade Centre hanging up by my bed and I keep
one in my flak jacket. Every time I feel sorry for these people I look at
that. I think, 'They hit us at home and, now, it's our turn.' I don't want
to say payback but, you know, it's pretty much payback."

I don't know what the American Enterprise Institute's policy was about
in the Yugoslavia, Balkans, War [in Kosovo] but I can guess.
http://www.balkanpeace.org/content/otkh05.shtml
I just read their policy a few minutes ago, and wrote something idiotic
to blow off steam. They say they don't promote any policy. Everybody
knows they promote an aggressive stance in the world, and that Russo-
jewish-american thing called neo-conservatism for idealogues who admire
communism or "democratic capitalism" after you learn the lexicon. I
wonder what Fred Barnes gets paid by the non-profit organization AEI to
make those neo-cons look respectable?
AEI espouses neoconservatism. I never saw Fred Barnes that way.
I am of the opinion when you read a policy statement that refutes and
contradicts everything you just read in the previous paragraphs, you
are being deceived. If the print farther down the page contradicts the
print that is in the first few paragraphs then a good judge would have
to rule that the purpose of the policy is to confuse the person. In
other words to deceive.
When reading glasses aren't strong enough, and you need a magnifying

Israel: The Dead Roach in America's Salad
by Charley Reese
The Israeli lobby and the neoconservatives are beating the drums for war
with Iran. I hope the president is not that dangerously stupid. The betting
on whether he is that stupid is about even.
The neocons - who, being self-centered, seemingly have no concept of human
nature - are advancing the premise that a military attack on Iran will cause
the people to lose faith in their government and result in regime change.
A military attack on Iran will have the opposite effect. The people will
rally to their government, and any hope of regime change will be dead. That
people will rally around their existing leaders in the face of an attack by
a foreign power is as certain as sunrise. Neither Israel nor the U.S. could
do a greater favor for the ruling mullahs and Iran's president than to
launch an attack. It would cement their hold on power.
The neocons' fallacious premise has already been disproved. In the first
Gulf War, the first Bush administration confidently incited the Shi'ites and
the Kurds to rebel after Saddam Hussein's forces were expelled from Kuwait.
The administration thought that Saddam, embarrassed by a crushing military
defeat, would fall from power in Iraq easily. Instead, he rallied his forces
and crushed both the Shi'ites in the south and the Kurds in the north. Oops.
In the first place, it is not embarrassing for a Third World country with
obsolete equipment to be defeated by the world's No. 1 military superpower.
In the second place, the Sunnis, however much they might have disliked
Saddam, disliked even more the thought of being ruled by Kurds or Shi'ites.
In the third place, by President George H.W. Bush's decision to not go to
Baghdad, Saddam could say he duked it out with the world's superpower and
was still standing after the fight. That, in most eyes, could be counted as
a victory.
Some months ago, an Iranian human-rights advocate pleaded with the current
Bush administration to cease its rhetorical attacks on the Iranian
government. She said, quite accurately, that such attacks make life
impossible for Iranian reformers. Needless to say, the blockheads in
Washington ignored her.
What did we do when the World Trade Center and the Pentagon were attacked?
We rallied behind George W. Bush - Democrats and Republicans, liberals and
conservatives. That's the natural reaction of normal human beings, and the
Iranians are normal human beings. Attack their country and they will rally
round the flag.
The Iranians still insist they are not seeking nuclear weapons, and there's
not a scrap of evidence to contradict that claim. They still adhere to the
Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty. They have often called for a nuclear-free
Middle East.
Once again, the dead roach in America's salad is Israel. The U.S.
hypocritically opposes a nuclear-free Middle East because Israel has nuclear
weapons. We hypocritically claim the Iranians are in violation of
international law when, in fact, it is Israel that refuses to sign the
Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty and refuses international inspections.
Given our craven obedience to Israel, we have exactly zero credibility in
the Arab and Muslim world.
As I have said before, I don't care if the Iranians do develop nuclear
weapons. My whole adult life was lived with 30,000 Soviet nuclear weapons
aimed at me. I can certainly live with the six or seven Iran might be able
to scrape together in the next five to 10 years. In the meantime, the U.S.
government should kick the Israeli lobby out of the country and support Iran
and the Arab League in pushing for a nuclear-free Middle East.
The Israeli lobby pushing America to fight yet another war for Israel
reminds me of what the French ambassador to Great Britain said at a party:
"Why does the world allow this (expletive deleted) little country to cause
so much trouble?"
Why indeed? You should ask your politicians that question.

Neo-Crazy Plans for Iran
by Gordon Prather
If you haven't already read Seymour Hersh's stunning article, "The Iran
Plans," in the New Yorker magazine about President Bush's plans to
preemptively "take out" what the Israelis claim is an Iranian secret
nuke-oriented uranium-enrichment program, you'd better do it soon, because
Hersh claims the plans are already in the early stages of implementation.
There are already some US troops and former MEK terrorists operating in
Iran.
Hersh amplified on his article in interviews conducted by Wolf Blitzer on
CNN and by Amy Goodman on Democracy Now!
To set the scene, recall that, as a signatory to the Treaty on
Nonproliferation of Nuclear Weapons, Iran is required to subject all "source
or special fissionable material" being produced, processed, or used in any
principal facility to an IAEA Safeguards Agreement for the "exclusive
purpose" of verifying that none is diverted from peaceful uses to use in
nuclear weapons.
Despite Director-General ElBaradei's many reports that Iran is not in
"violation" or in "noncompliance" with its NPT-required Safeguards
Agreement, Condi Rice seized on these words in ElBaradei's most recent
report [.pdf]'"the agency is not at this point in time in a position to
conclude that there are no undeclared nuclear materials or activities in
Iran"'and declared them to be "questions that are within the competence of
the Security Council."
So, at Condi's insistence, the IAEA Board had ElBaradei "report" to the
Security Council the entire Iranian dossier.
Now, unfortunately for Condi, that dossier not only documents Iran's
voluntary cooperation with IAEA inspections that far exceed anything
required by the NPT-required Safeguards Agreement (in fact, far beyond even
what would be required by an Additional Protocol, if one were in force), but
also documents numerous serious violations by the Board and individual
members of Iran's "inalienable" rights under the IAEA Statute, as well as
the NPT itself.
So, Condi tried to get a "Presidential Statement" rather than a binding
resolution 'from the Council noting Iran's "past failures to comply with its
international commitments."
But Condi wasn't even able to get that.
On the contrary, after three weeks of acrimonious debate, the Security
Council issued a Presidential Statement, which begins as follows:
"The Security Council reaffirms its commitment to the Treaty on the
Nonproliferation of Nuclear Weapons and recalls the right of States Party,
in conformity with articles I and II of that Treaty, to develop research,
production and use of nuclear energy for peaceful purposes without
discrimination."
Worse still for Condi, the Council essentially remanded the Iranian dossier
to the IAEA Board.
"The Security Council strongly supports the role of the IAEA Board of
Governors 'and underlines the necessity of the IAEA continuing its work to
clarify all outstanding issues relating to Iran's nuclear program."
Nevertheless, the neo-crazies and their media sycophants have been falsely
claiming that the Iranian dispute is now in the hands of the Security
Council which has "demanded" that Iran immediately suspend all
IAEA-Safeguarded activities.
Of course, the Iranians have absolutely refused to comply because they know
perfectly well that the issue with Iran'and with Iraq three years ago'is not
the nuke-oriented nuclear-enrichment programs that Bush alleges are there,
so well hidden that the IAEA can't find them.
No, the issue is the Iranian regime itself, which Bush and the neocrazies
are determined to supplant, by force if necessary.
According to Hersh, our allies'especially the British'are very worried.
"[Prime Minister] Blair's the wild card in this. He and Bush both have this
sense, this messianic sense, I believe, about what they've done and what's
needed to be done in the Middle East. I think Blair is every bit as
committed into this world of'rapture,'as is the president."
Hersh decribes a "blustery" meeting in Vienna between ElBaradei and Robert
Joseph, the Under Secretary of State for Arms Control,
"The European and American complaint against El Baradei is this: they say,
'My God, he's treating this issue as if both sides have some justification,
that Iran's aspirations equal the American and European's desire not for
them to go nuclear.
"So they think he's unfair. They think he's being too balanced, too nuanced,
and that was the message that Joseph gave, basically, with a significant
loss of temper, or let's put it, 'intemperate' behavior, basically
saying,'You will desist from saying anything that interferes with us. We
view this as our gravest national security threat.'"
Is it any wonder that even our allies have concluded that the neo-crazies
are really crazy?

Why don't you quote the article you cite, fuckwit? Here's what it
says:
"War on crime
The SFPD used SWAT-style equipment to raid a Western Addition
housing project. Does military gear encourage military policing?
By Christian Parenti
JUST BEFORE DAWN on Oct. 30, 90 law-enforcement officers wearing
black masks and fatigues and armed with assault rifles stormed the
Martin Luther King Jr./Marcus Garvey Cooperative in the Western
Addition. They used special "shock-lock" shotgun rounds to blow
apartment doors off their hinges and cleared people out of rooms
by throwing "flash-bang grenades," which produce nonlethal
explosions that terrify and disorient people."
And this about the dog: "And a pit bull named Bosco -- which many
residents described as well liked and friendly -- was shot inside
an apartment, dragged bleeding outside, and shot again. Deputy
chief Richard Holder told police commissioners that, according to
police intelligence gathered during "covert operations," the dog
was "known for its jumping ability and was shot in mid-air.""

Wow, a whole pound of marijuana, and 4 ounces of crack. Yes sir,
that certainly justified ninety cops busting in the doors of
mostly innocent people asleep in their beds.
That's a net win of five grams of weed and one-and-a-half grams of
crack per cop. A great return on investment.
